IRINOTECAN

Commercial name: Camptosar

Pharmacological class: topoisomerase I inhibitor

Therapeutic class: antineoplastic

Action: irinotecan, a derivative of camptothecin, inhibits the action of topoisomerase I. It prevents religation of the DNA strand by binding to topoisomerase I-DNA complex, and causes double-strand DNA breakage and cell death.

In 2011, irinotecan hydrochloride is approved:

            ● to be used with other drugs to treat colorectal cancer that has metastasized;

            ● to treat metastatic colorectal cancer that has recurred or gotten worse after earlier chemotherapy.

             ● pour une utilisation avec d'autres médicaments pour traiter le cancer colorectal métastatique;

            ● pour traiter le cancer colorectal métastatique qui a récidivé ou s'est aggravé après une chimiothérapie antérieure.
