EPIRUBICIN

Action: epirubicin has antimitotic and cytotoxic activity. It inhibits nucleic acid (DNA and RNA) and protein synthesis through a number of proposed mechanisms of action: Epirubicin forms complexes with DNA by intercalation between base pairs, and it inhibits topoisomerase II activity by stabilizing the DNA-topoisomerase II complex, preventing the religation portion of the ligation-religation reaction that topoisomerase II catalyzes. It also interferes with DNA replication and transcription by inhibiting DNA helicase activity.
In 2011, epirubicin hydrochloride is approved:
● to treat early-stage breast cancer that has spread to the lymph nodes under the arm. It is used together with other chemotherapy after breast cancer surgery.

Elle inhibe l'acide nucléique (ADN et ARN) et la synthèse des protéines à travers un certain nombre de mécanismes d'actions: l’épirubicine forme des complexes avec l'ADN par intercalation entre les paires de bases, et elle inhibe l'activité de la topoisomérase II en stabilisant les complexes ADN-topoisomérase II, empêchant l’étape de « religation » de la réaction « ligation-religation » que la topoisomérase II catalyse. L’épirubicine interfère également avec la réplication et la transcription de l'ADN par inhibition de l'activité ADN hélicase.
En 2011, le chlorhydrate d'épirubicine est approuvé :
● pour traiter le cancer du sein au stade précoce qui s'est propagé aux ganglions lymphatiques sous le bras. Il est utilisé conjointement avec une autre chimiothérapie après une chirurgie du cancer du sein.
